Course Content

MODULE 1: FOUNDATIONS OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
Early childhood is a distinct and highly influential stage of human development. Young children learn differently from older children, with relationships, movement, play, language and exploration forming the foundation of their learning. This module introduces the purpose and principles of early childhood education, how the developing brain learns and the major domains of child development. Participants will understand developmentally appropriate practice, the professional role of an early childhood educator and the expectations of NEP 2020 and NCF-FS 2022.

MODULE 2: PLAY-BASED PEDAGOGY AND LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS
Play is the primary medium through which young children explore ideas, develop skills and make sense of their world. Effective early-years teaching transforms play into purposeful learning without reducing children’s curiosity, choice or enjoyment. This module explores free play, guided play and structured play, along with learning through stories, art, music, movement and exploration. Participants will learn to design meaningful experiences, establish effective routines and create engaging learning centres using accessible and low-cost materials.

MODULE 3: FOUNDATIONAL LITERACY, NUMERACY AND DISCOVERY
Foundational learning begins long before formal reading, writing and arithmetic. It develops through conversations, stories, sounds, patterns, movement, observation and everyday problem-solving experiences. This module introduces practical approaches for developing oral language, vocabulary, phonological awareness, pre-reading and pre-writing skills. It also covers number sense, classification, patterns, shapes, measurement and early scientific thinking through games, manipulatives and hands-on exploration.

MODULE 4: SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING, POSITIVE GUIDANCE AND INCLUSION
Children learn best when they feel safe, valued, understood and included. An early childhood educator must be able to support emotional development, guide behaviour positively and respond sensitively to different learning and developmental needs. This module explores emotional awareness, confidence, empathy, independence, cooperation and self-regulation. Participants will learn positive guidance strategies for managing tantrums, conflicts, separation anxiety and challenging behaviour while creating inclusive learning experiences for every child.

MODULE 5: CURRICULUM PLANNING, ASSESSMENT AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
Effective early childhood education requires more than delivering individual activities. Educators must be able to plan coherent learning experiences, observe children’s development, maintain safe environments, collaborate with families and act according to clear professional and ethical standards. This final module connects educational theory with professional classroom practice. It introduces responsive curriculum planning, observation-based assessment, health and safeguarding responsibilities, family partnership, confidentiality and reflective professional development. The module prepares participants to plan, implement, document and evaluate developmentally appropriate early learning programmes.
